COR-TEN STEEL (also: corten steel or Corten steel) is a weathering steel. The surface of COR-TEN steel is protected under the actual rust layer with a particularly dense barrier layer of adherent sulfates or phosphates. This allows for the high corrosion resistance.
Note: After the first use of the fire bowl, the color of corten and stainless steel changes due to the reaction with the heat (see garden photo). This is not a quality defect (or reason for complaint) of the material, but is a natural characteristic of steel.
