Brake Lever Systems
Rabbit BMX Brake Systems was a guided project for Investment Casting, a class which taught the techniques of aluminum casting. In this semester long course, I was responsible for bringing a cast aluminum object from concept to completion. Instead of rapid wax prototyping my initial model, I taught myself how to wax cast from urethane molds. This allowed me to produce 3 final products within my budget. All casting was completed at the John Brown Foundry in Cranston, Rhode Island. The final casts were powdercoated at Kochek Inc.

My Goal:

To create a range of quality and test-ready BMX Brake Levers with original designs that explore new forms in a field that lacks originality. The Brake Levers incorporate finger divisions that combine styles from a single finger brake lever with the traditional bar brake lever.
As someone with a personal connection to the BMX world and over 10 years of riding experience, I wanted to contribute my knowledge of brake systems and create a unique aftermarket product.
The Rabbit Brake Lever provides two separate areas for fingers to apply braking force. The concept is designed to offer greater braking power from the division of the fingers on two different fulcrums.
