Aatekkere is an interactive educational kit created with the aim to generate a sense of understanding of a lake ecosystem alongwith a sense of responsibility towards looking after the man-made lakes of Bangalore city.

Modelled off of the Rachanehalli Lake near Jakkur, Bangalore, India, this project consists of build-your-own & draw-your-own ecosystem activities. Information cards tell the students about the different sections that make up the lake (kere) ecosystem and the various elements that belong to each section. These elements take the form of 3-dimensional illustrated counters that can be placed on the site provided to build an ecosystem according to the students own understanding. Blank journals are also provided for students to draw their own idea of what a kere ecosystem could be.

The name ‘Aatakkere” has been derived from the Kannada words ‘aatake’ which means ‘to play’ and ‘kere’ which means ‘water tank’.

*this project was created as a final assessment project for my second year at Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology.
