Legendary Swiss graphic designer and educator, Armin Hofmann is recognized for his immeasurable influence on generations of designers, teaching the power and elegance of simplicity and clarity through a timeless aesthetic, always informed by context.
Swiss sculptor and graphic designer, Armin Hofmann was born in Winterthur, Switzerland, 29th of June 1920. From 1949, he has been a freelance designer working in Basel and Bern. From 1947-1955, he taught graphic design at the School of Arts and Crafts in Basel. He occasionally visited as a graphic design lecturer at Yale University, the Philadelphia Museum School, Aspen International Design Conference, and the National Design Institute His works has been displayed as one of the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum. In 1984, Hofmann won the frst prize at the Swiss National Exhibition in Lausanne. He is notably known for his goal of communication above all else, new techniques of photo-typesetting, photo montage, experimental composition, and his famous sans-serif typography.
