Give Blood Save A Life

      For my social awareness poster I choose to do blood donation. This cause can appeal to everyone and I tried to make it simple. At first I thought of putting a collage of different blood donation icons and symbols in the background of a big drop of blood. Once I had it all put together, it looked childish and I did not like it at all. I thought the poster should make more of a statement.
      First I looked for backgrounds. I found one that was in red and black that looked perfect for this poster. I came across a picture of a person’s hand stretched out. I thought this would be perfect for symbolizing someone giving. It is in black and white and looks great in front of the dark background. I also gave it a red color overlay along with a dark inner shadow. When creating my blood drop, I wanted it to look bright and realistic. I put many colors into it and used
the blurring filter in Photoshop to blend it all together. When I placed it in front of the background, I did not want it to get lost in the red color so I decided to put a white outer glow around it. It helps separate it from the background and also gives a “miracle” type look to it.
      I choose to use a short phrase in the poster and made it very basic and to the point. Give Blood Save A Life. In one poster I choose to have everything centered with the short phrase on top and the drop in the hand on the bottom. I did the font in white in contrast of the dark background. I then defined the stroke, gave a white overlay, and a dark gray drop shadow to help it stand out a bit. In the other poster I used a different font and background. On this poster I put the type around the drop of blood. I made the drop of blood larger and more of the focal point.
