Logo Design for 1874 - Annual Design Festival

1874 (One Eight Seven Four) is the annual college fest organised by the students of MIT Institute of Design. The name is derived from coordinates that pin points the location of the college.
The idea was to come up with something that would emphasise on the location aspect of the name whilst retaining the fun, and interactive element which showed what a college festival looks like. The initial approach was all about playing with the digits, origami and coordinates. One of the main problems that I had to solve was the way the name was being pronounced. Most people called it 'Eighteen Seventy Four' instead of 'One Eight Seven Four', the latter being the actual way it was meant to be pronounced.
I decided to work with idea of maps; the folds of the map being the interactive elements that could be used to elevate the overall experience. Bright colours added to the visual experience and the playful idea of the identity.
