Synopsis:


Bobby Harris was a singer from Bootle who featured in an Art In Action - BBC 2 ‘Open Door’ documentary strand about Art In Action and the Bootle community. He performed his song “The Marsh Lane Girls.” with his sidekick Billy Law Snr, which was included in the programme’s soundtrack.

Lyrics like "How we loved to kiss your ruby lips just to taste your fish and chips." have entered into Bootle folklore because of Bobby.

As a youngster Bobby lived in Florida Street - Bootle forming a skiffle group with the Harris brothers: Andy and Jimmy and the 'three Johns' - McMahon. Garner and Herbert.

Bobby recorded some of his music with Billy Laws Snr - most notably: “Bill And Bob Sing Four Bootle Songs.”

DIGITISATION:

Digitisation process:
On the 16th October 2009 a digital copy of an original black and white print was taken with a Nikon D5000 DSLR on a copystand. The file was imported into the host I-Mac G5 Apple Macintosh computer OS10.4.11. and using Adobe Photoshop CS4 software creating a 72 dpi Grayscale Jpeg file.

PHOTOGRAPHER'S COMMENTS:
The portrait photograph of Bobby was taken whilst making the Television programme on location at the Bootle Docks.

OTHER COMMENTS:
Bobby Harris was featured in the ART IN ACTION / BBC2 TV programme titled 'Its Bootle but is it Art' an Open Door programme about the ART IN ACTION Community Group. Bobby was interviewed walking on the Docks quayside for inclusion in the programme, and he also sang a song with Billy Law (senior) called 'The Marsh Lane Girls' which was included in the TV programmes soundtrack. The Television programme was broadcast on Monday 4th January 1981 at 7.30pm on BBC2. It was a great success. Administrator.
