KAŽIN COVERS: Plasticine illustration

Here is a series of illustions for the student magazine KAZIN of Student organization from the University of Primorska, Slovenia. Made from November 2011 to March 2012.

I always try to build significant illustrations with strong content related to actual topics regarding international, national, or local problems.

COVER 02

This cover is based on slovenian politicians before the party elections.

I tried to use a "sweet" metaphor.

All the politicians are very good in building castles in clouds, with their sweet blablablas... how their program will make the society prosper. YEAH RIGHT!!??

So... every candy has his own flavor. So I tried to find out which politician matches with certain popular candy (some of them are from the past and know just in the ex Jugoslavian territory).

COVER 03

The cover focuses on the election of the candidate Zoran Jankovič as a Slovenian Prime Minister who become the winner as a big surprise. The Magazine was printed in the middle of December 2011. I think the metaphor of a present box was at the right place.

The following of the political situation in Slovenia is quite complex, and difficult to explain here in this lines.

COVER 05

The cover focuses on the FAMILY LAW which already passed through the parlament. The law was relatively liberal regarding homosexual families, but also other topics. But this was the main obstacle for conservatives who claimed that family is a cell connecting the the mother, father and children (and the bishop... most of the times). So they found the way to put the law on the most "democratic" of tools - REFERENDUM.

At that time big public campaigns raised from left and right. - all putting poor children in the center of the story - kind of. WE ARE MAKING THIS IN THE GOOD OF OWR CHILDREN - they shouted. But in reality the campaign was based on misinformation and a lot of times lies - from the Right wing with a strong support by the catholic churc.

When I am writing this the participants of the referendum (Slovenian citizens) choosed not to support the law!!?? This is a sad time for more liberal slovenian society!

About the illustration:

The idea was to put a child in the center on the composition. But this child is terrified about the ideas and regulations dealing with his life. In slovenian LAW is called ZAKON. The word ZAKON is written with umbilical cord - but the cord is divided in two parts. From one side the child is fed with more liberal ideas, from the other side by conservative ones.
