Tea drinking is a form of relaxation. Being a drink that originated in China, tea is able to reflect Asian culture. In a Buddhist context, the lotus symbolizes purity of the mind, body and spirit. Therefore, the form of the lotus has inspired the form of the teacup and saucer.

Made of Chengal wood, the lotus teacup and saucer is produced by woodturning its form. The details such as the suggestion of petals at the side of the cup and saucer, as well as the embellishment on the base, are produced through woodcarving. The grain of the wood is positioned to accentuate the form of the product.

Teabags are becoming more widely used as compared to loose tea in a contemporary lifestyle. Therefore, besides being a decorative aspect of the teacup, the carving on the side of the teacup serves the purpose of holding the string of teabags in place. The saucer can also serve the purpose of a small plate for snacks to go with tea.

The teacup and saucer are designed to look like a stylized lotus, with carvings on the side to give the impression of the petals. When the cup is placed on the saucer, a multi-layered effect is also achieved. The base of the teacup and saucer also has carvings of lotus, which serves the purpose of giving more stability.
