The Highline

The Highline
Temporary installation in the courtyard of UACEG, Sofia's oldest University of Architecture
This instalation was developed as a teamwork and is a part of a one-day workshop organized by Transformatori for finding a purpose of the courtyard of UACEG. All the preparations and the installation itself had to be done in a single day and to be as simple and low-cost as possible. Our team decided to deal with the problem of accessing the university library, which was only possible through the open-air courtyard.

We made a moving line, much similar to a clothes drying line, with two umbrellas attached to opposite parts of the line. In bad weather, one could reach the library safe and dry by pulling the umbrella along with himself. To ensure that no one was left stranded, the other umbrella would simultaneously move on its own in the opposite direction.

We found this way of interfering with the built environment to be simple and interactive, showcasing an existing shortcoming in a positive and creative way.
