Peace & Conflict Studies
Web site and Advertising Campaign
I worked as part of the design team that created the new web site for the Conflict and Peace Studies Program at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. We wanted to use their website to tell the main story of their program in order to increase their profile, improve enrollment, and bring a higher degree of order to a website that was somewhat dated. We wanted to emphasize their strong academic quality, their community involvement, and the nature of their program, which was not about fixing conflict so much as transforming it.
THE AD CAMPAIGN

After creating the new web site, we created a campaign to promote the Conflict and Peace Studies program. The question was how to represent the key aspect of their program–namely, that peace comes through transforming one's understanding of the conflict. After developing the tagline "Conflict transformed" I came up with the idea of barbed wire (inspired by the transform image on the web site) which represented CONFLICT, and have it visually transform into a symbol of peace. It works well in a still image and even better when animated. The ad ran in several newspapers as well as online.
