Before there was Humans of New York, there was me!

From 1975 to 1979, I roamed Manhattan and Brooklyn with two 35mm cameras, a tape recorder, and a notebook, photographing and interviewing the people I encountered on the streets and subways. The result was a collection of some 5,000 photographs and several interviews and stories of my experiences on the streets.

I completed this project in June, 2022. In the 70s, I called what I was doing "slow journalism." I chose the right name!
