Lettering assignment for Troye Sivan's Debut Album - Blue Neighbourhood
 
Late last year I was commissioned by EMI to design the lettering for Troye Sivan's debut album cover, Blue Neighbourhood. Since then the album has become an international success. Troye has appeared on 60 Minutes Australia and also performed his hit tracks on numerous talk shows such as The Ellen Degeneres Show and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. With advertising in illustrious places like Time Square, NY Time Magazine had listed him at the time in the top 25 Most Influential Teenagers. 
 
Troye is quickly becoming a mega star, so to have been asked to do the lettering for such a huge up and coming talent was a great privilege.
 
The best part though is my daughters absolutely love his music and it was a fun project to work on.

Sped up for optimistation, the speed used for this style of writing is still very quick compared to other controlled styles.

Scan of chosen concept - Once we established a style it was a matter of write repeat, write repeat until I nailed a composition I was happy with.
With a lot of letters to consider and the nature of the speed required to get texture through your strokes, I'll admit I went through a bit of paper and ink.

When writing the tracklist I was happy to capture imperfections. I didn't want to create something that was refined and script perfect. 
In doing so the typography has an organic character and an approachability.
