Photography -- Urban Living

The inspiration for this series of photographs stems from Slovakian photographer Maria Svarbova. Her work separates emotion from her subjects through strictly ordered composition and sparse environments. In this particular series, I wanted to investigate the relationship between people and the modern urban environment in which they live, showing the relative emotional deprivation of twenty-first century cities. These photographs display the grid-like systems of tower blocks and use them to highlight the cold, mechanical state of this modern world, combining it with the ghostly appearance of the model in all white and the stiff, scripted poses.
