Poster created for Imagemaking course during the fall 2015 semester at UMSL.
The guidelines for this project were to create a poster with a quote from our semester topic. My topic was "dirty." I chose a quote from rapper Tupac Sakur, which featured the word dirty and explained the gritty aspect of going through everyday life and moving toward success. The second aspect was to create hand made type using unconventional materials. For my handmade type I chose to create the word "survive" using india ink and my fingers as the mark-making tool. I wanted to create a fluid look to this type. For the word "dirty," I chose to use coffee to create texture and add to the grit of the quote. I also used a gritty medium for "nasty" as well, by creating it out of thyme. the word "unbelievable" was made out of tape which I broke up to make the composition more interesting. I chose to highlight "lie" in the word unbelieveable because it added to the concept of moving through life in a dirty way. The supporting text was a simple serif typeface, which has an added spraypaint texture overlayed, giving it subtle texture.
