Brief: To design a range of baubles for Christmas 2015/2016 for Squared Rose
Starting with research into Squared Rose's current range and their competitors current ranges, future trends in Christmas decorations, what the possible users look for when they buy a bauble and what sentimental connection they can have with one. This led to me spot an opportunity in the market of scented baubles, it was a trend that had never made a big impact on the market and I wondered if this was to do with the materials used, such as felt. I wanted to create a range of scented baubles that oozed elegance and quality and set about designing and protoyping.
The prototypes shown below were hand created by myself for a client meeting, and were scented. I had experimented with various essential oils to choose the perfect smell that most people could relate to Christmas. The tokens inside that hold the smell are: real Cinnamon, handmade felt holly with Berries oil, real pinecones soaked in Pine oil and handmade felt stars with Frankincense and Myrrh oil.
The initial product used the bulb design, featured in the following images, however the client wanted to develop a range from these, so I designed an array of alternatively shaped baubles, as shown below.

From there, I also designed a range of bottles available in glass, porcelain and polished steel for customers that wanted a scented decoration that they didn't have to hang and could place around the house, on the mantlepiece for example.

I also designed a second range featuring clear glass and beautiful hammered metals in a variety of colours.
