CD Cover design I crafted for the international EVD release of Calgary DJ/Producer Haakonsen's second solo EP.

The directive was to use the artist's selected portrait in a surrealist manner, leveraging nature and abstract imagery. The inclusion of the multi-faceted poly pattern over the already surrealist superimposed nature photography was to further the idea of a puzzle, perhaps unsolvable. The abstraction speaks to the 80's and 90's origins of the music style & effects, while keeping it very modern and relevant.

"While the EVD debut EP of Calgary's Matt Read explored the trippy bass lines associated with garage, his latest release, Rubicks, focuses on classic '90s house style, with all the sexy 4/4 beats, diced vocal samples, old school percussion and uplifting melodies you can handle. Each of these tracks has a deceptive simplicity, familiar forms presented in exquisite detail clearly demonstrating the historical knowledge and refined vision of Haakonsen that will only appreciate over time."
