Once I was a Styrofoam (grad project)

A material research - graduation project - with Styrofoam waste
What more can we do to recycle this packaging waste when an industrial solution is not available ?

The Expended Polystyrene can be dissolved in various solvents like acetone

when it does, the foam breaks down, air escapes

 and the volume decreases drastically like magic

The resulting material is a home-made "StyroDough" that can be processed by hand

Hardening of the plastic happens when the solvents evaporates creating different air-bubbles patterns under different conditions


Using this method I created a series of containing reusable products:

a pot - to contain our plants

a bowl - to contain our fruits

 and a lightning fixture - to contain our kid night's light
