"Flueshoe" - 50 second spot

The Flueshoe is a new product aimed at gas boiler fitters. The inventor, Simon Brown, asked me to create a short clip that illustrates the function of the tool, adding humour to what is usually a very dry "corporate" type of video. I pitched the idea of a mid-20th Century style of animation, allowing some extreme expressions and poses. Character and sets were created in Photoshop and Illustrator before being animated in After Effects.

I developed a simple character, a slightly put-upon middle aged boiler fitter, who I could squash and stretch and generally push to the limit. The action in the sequence was kept deliberately simple to throw attention to the product and the process.

The client was extremely happy with the end result, and the clip has helped sell his product in to the target market, with an overwhelmingly positive response.
Storyboard frame - Adobe Photoshop. Our boiler fitter gets a bit worked up trying to cut the flue for his installation the old-fashioned, messy way.
Storyboard frame - the mounting madness of cutting a flue without any stability or guides. Trust me it's a nightmare.
Storyboard frame - product hero shot, the Flueshoe slides in to save the day.
Storyboard frame - our boiler fitter is now using the Flueshoe. Look how happy he is!
Quick test to demonstrate the "mixed media" approach to the client.
