Firetide HotPoint Mesh Router
2003 DEMOmobile DEMOgod Award
Firetide HotPoint wireless mesh routers enable deployment of instant wireless networks and wi-fi hot zones. They eliminate the need for expensive wiring in large scale installations such as airports, campuses, and convention centers. The Firetide HotPoint's design details all serve a function. A simple, tooling-free, bent steel wire attaches to the rear vents to allow it to stand or hook on to partitions. The unit hangs on walls and ceilings and stacks without obstructing airflow or visibility of the LED readout. The bent metal wire hook/stand even serves to securely clip the instruction manual packet to the device in packaging. A sloping lava tide form was the inspirational metaphor for this then Hawaii-based start-up client.

The conceptual design played a key role in helping Firetide secure millions of dollars in venture capital funding. Firetide won the 2003 DEMOmobile DEMOgod Award and earned the prestigious Red Herring Top 100 Innovators Award.  As of 2009, Firetide has raised about US$53 million from Coral Capital Management and Menlo Ventures, among others.
