This project is a part of proactive work. DIY Dabba is an app for the urban Indian. It gives the young and busy Indian an easy way of making a good and healthy home cooked meal.

The idea was born from my own experience as a young professional living away from home in a new city. It provides recipes to user, using ingredients as a filter. This is to ease the application of buying and cooking, with ingredients you may find in your refrigerator.

Firstly, the logo for DIY Dabba was created. The icon depicts a sandwich and a chef’s hat at once. The sandwich represents the ease of preparation and draws from the word “dabba” which means lunchbox in Hindi. The chef’s hat represents the act of cooking. As cooking is mostly looked at as a chore, the fun and vibrant colours chosen for the identity are fun and vibrant. As colours, they can be easily associated with food.

Once the profile is created, the user is directed to the home page. The user can see a list of common ingredients in the form of icons, and a search bar which allows him to key in his own ingredient. The common ingredients were illustrated and incorporated for easy access and to reinforce the playfulness of the app.

As the user starts searching for and selecting the ingredients he has in his kitchen, the app will start filtering and suggesting relevant, quick and easy recipes. This has been depicted in the second screen. Once he decides which ingredients to use, images of the suggested recipes will appear at the bottom of the screen. He will click on an interesting image to be led to the recipe page. On the recipe page, he will be able to see a blown up image of the dish as well as detailed directions to make the recipe of his choice.
He can also view his favourite recipes, search for other recipes or edit his profile from this pull out navigation window.
