RE/FLECT-IONS_Immersive Installation

The concept of the installation is to sample personal fragments from the surrounding of the gallery and filter it through an artistic intuitive process to create an immersive spatial experience. The piece will be structured into three parts:
01 the CREATION/ 02 the VIDEO OVERLAY and 03 the EXPERIENCE
01// THE CREATION
The idea is to make the installation unique to the place (the genius loci) and time when it is created. By taking walks in the neighborhood, I want to immerse myself in Wynwood, listen to music while taking pictures, scribbling words that come to mind, sounds, smells, snippets of randomness. Charged up with the subjectively filtered information and local energy I am ready to ‘reflect’ it all back into the space. The process is about letting go in a jazz improvisation kind of way and have my intuition drive the creation of a unique visual landscape.

The materials will be acrylic paint, markers and silver metallic vinyl. The reflective qualities of the vinyl are an integral part of the final piece that will come to life with light to create stunning caustics in the space. The final piece will have an ephemeral atmosphere - that is unique because of the changing light conditions -  that transcends the piece of art into a stunning experience. Being mirrored myself while working is going to further intensify my vision of ‘falling or diving deeper into your/self’.
02// THE VIDEO OVERLAY
The second part to the piece is filming the performance from multiple fixed camera positions on ceiling level. The plan is to shoot it at a time-lapse speed of lets say 2 images a second (instead of 24). The projection overlay creates a kind of space-time-halo, echoing the creation process over the installation/ artwork, creating a beautiful dialogue by animating the reflective surface with light.
03// EXPERIENCE
The viewer becomes the third active layer of the piece. The space will get activated by its visitors, creating a dialogue with the reflective piece and its viewers. The visitors will also be overlaid by the projection of me creating what is currently reflecting them - creating an interesting space-time-loop. Depending on the time of day, the visitor will most likely have a more intense experience in the evening when the video overlay is the most visible.
