Prototype Overview
The prototype for the Grade 9 book was already created when I joined the company. I designed pieces as needed for that grade-level. Each grade level in high school has design changes and new features. For Grade 10, I was involved in art direction for the new and updated pieces, and provided direct design where necessary. For Grade 11/12, I was more heavily involved in art direction and we used it as an opportunity to simplify pieces and style sheets to streamline the production process.
Production Overview - Grade 10 (2 projects)
I worked on the two Grade 10 books (one for each semester).

I was responsible for:
•  Art direction of page layout
•  Ensuring content would fit in fluid template, with no set page count
•  Pushed for dynamic photos, especially on Opener spreads and features
Honoring the Body feature prototype, Grade 9
Created an edgy approach, including angles, scribble-borders and backgrounds, and a feature header that is cropped at the trim to appeal to teens.  Also created a version for a spread (not shown). Color palette and typefaces and question box already established for the program. Researched photo.
Callings feature prototype, Grade 10
This feature had two instances of boilerplate text that turned into fun design elements (see the quotes in the upper right hand corner and along the bottom). Color palette and typefaces and question box already established for the program. Researched photo.
Faith, Media, and Me feature prototype, Grade 10
A quarter-page feature, vertical and horizontal. Color palette and typefaces and question box already established for the program. Researched photo. This feature was ultimately not printed.
Catholic Life feature prototype, Grade 10
This feature existed in the Grade 9 books but the feature title was significantly changed for Grade 10, creating a whole new feel for the feature. Header treatments were also revised, and were further simplified in Grades 11/12 (to be posted late-2013/early-2014).
