Children's Book: A Girl Named Sam

In 2011, American Jennifer Hartinger contacted me through a friend and in 2013, the book was born. My role was to illustrate for her children's book, as well as contribute to the art direction of the layout. I created the cover in Indesign and Photoshop. In 2015, we switched publishers and have a brand-new hardcover version, now on sale at Amazon.com.

Work-in-progress: plans to make an e-book and colouring book, as well as distribution in Europe.

Designed cover with attention to colours, age group, pedagogic logic to placement of title at horizon and the natural focus of the eye.
- Attention to the fact that ages 4-8 are learning alphabets (therefore block letters with A as an important letter)
- Market survey with kids show this image to be the most popular, with ignited interest and good memories at the beach.
- Image shows a common aspect of childplay - imaginary playacting with toys.
- Handwritten fonts chosen for words kids would read; serif fonts for adults at the back.
Flyer for schoolchildren to bring home after a reading.
Growing their daughter Sam like a sprout.
