This is a compilation of autocompleted words that are generated by Google’s search engine based on the first letter of the alphabet.

The project is part of an ongoing research of Google’s aggregated data from searches. This is a speculative project that informs us about the culture and society we live in. At the same time, this project also informs what you can’t learn from it, because the full dataset is not open.

On a larger scale, the project has two goals: it shows the value of this data as a research tool and it advocates for private companies (not only Google) – to open their data for research purposes.

 

CREDITS

I designed the book and wrote a Node.js script to save the Autocomplete predictions everyday. Previous versions of it also included an online platform where users could generate and print their own books.

I printed the books in photolithography, with the guidance of Martin Mazorra.
