Two illustrators：Rianti (Indonesia) & Nemury (Japan) Two nationalities. Two Previous Behance Appreciation Award winners. Behance Japan requested us to pick each other’s favourite artwork and re-do it in our own personal style.

The illustration i choose to reinterpret ( https://www.behance.net/gallery/18192503/Geometric-Animal-Set-with-a-Drawing-app- ) is stand out because it uses cold and less color than Nemury`s usual drawing. This color palette also new to me and I am intrigued to give it a try. The other reason is the theme itself, where “tangram” is unique; “animals” is basic and gives me wide possibilities to explore the theme.

 

Tangram is very two-dimensional, so I am wondering whether it`s possible to see tangram as three-dimensional thing. Then I start thinking about the story I want to tell. What if they actually not an animal? Influenced by my work as video-game artist, the concept becomes a three-dimensional video-game stage made from animal tangram where you need to find the key to cat`s heart to clear the stage. During the creation I struggled on the geometric shapes and color. My drawing usually consists of organic shape and cheerful color.

 

I actually had to scrap everything midway because the combination of both tangram and cold color gives cold and stiff feeling. It didn`t look fun as a game stage. So I keep the basic concept, but modified the color. This challenge made me realize that my color palette is still narrow, and need to widen my taste.
