This David and Goliath illustration was commissioned for a digital flash website. The site focused on Bible stories. This illustration depicts the classic story of David and Goliath. 

 

I wanted to depict Goliath as the impossible barrier that David needs to overcome. So I made him incredibly huge and put him on the left side of the illustration, with David in his enormous shadow. 

 

Western viewers generally view and read images from left to right, so putting Goliath on the right puts him directly in David’s path, blocking his way toward success. Subliminally this conveys the challenge David faces.
