Weather Patterns & Earth Systems

The ability of forests to mitigate warming temperatures and climate change varies significantly between tropical, temperate and boreal forests. Scientists have found that boreal forests do not absorb as much carbon dioxide or cool by evaporation, but absorb more of the suns energy. Conversely, tropical and temperate forests strongly absorb CO2, and cool more by evaporation. Digitally painted for the National Science Foundation.

Many different kinds of sensors, from ground based to airplane borne, help gather data about hurricanes in the hope of better understanding and thus predicting them.
