Melinda Schmidt's profile

Big Rush | Advanced Problems of Graphic Design 1

Big Rush is a science exhibition that explains the scientific process of how sugar is used by your brain, causing ups and downs and how the user can become addicted over time. Also included in this exhibition are withdrawal symptoms, as well as how sugar is inaccurately marketed in today's society.

Final Logo - The inspiration of Big Rush came from 80's style design and a custom typeface was designed that was both appealing and angular to convey the concept of a “sugar rush.” Colors that inspired me were also 80's themed, such as bright purples, hot pink, and a bright electric blue.

1st Panel - Consume
2nd Panel - Sweet Taste
I wanted the viewer to be drawn into the exhibit and experience the feeling of
a sugar rush, with bold, bright, easy to distinguish graphics that would make you want to learn
more about the exhibition. The steps are numbers for the viewer's benefit so that the steps
of the process are easy to find and distinguish between.
3rd Panel - Sending Signals
4th Panel - Reaction
5th Panel - Withdrawal
6th Panel - Hidden Agenda
Exhibition Mock-Up
The exhibit will be hexagon-shaped with an entry sign straight ahead for the viewer to learn what the exhibit is about. Next, the process panels are laid out in order. The viewer will follow the exhibit inside of the hexagon. The “Withdrawal” panel as well as the “Hidden Agenda” panel will be set up so the viewer can learn more about sugar addiction.
