This is a fun commision from a friend who wanted to thank her friend for the wonderful vacation they shared in Maui, Hawaii.
I was inspired by Matisse's Cut Out show at MoMA in NY. The bird is my version of ʻiʻiwi
(Vestiaria coccinea, pronounced /iːˈiːviː/, ee-EE-vee), or scarlet Hawaiian honeycreeper.
I hope I can see them in person, because not only that they look so beautiful, but also they sound really cute!
I like reusing things around me, so maybe some of you recognize the packaging from Anthropologie if you shop online ;)
