La silla LAFRESCA ha sido diseñada por Damián López y Granada Barrero, dos diseñadores andaluces con gran interés por la relación entre artesanía y diseño, que buscan reactivar la artesanía local y rescatar oficios que están en peligro de extinción.
LAFRESCA chair has been designed by Damian López and Granada Barrero, two Andalusian designers deeply interested in the link of craftwork and design, who seek to reactivate the local craftwork and recover some professions on the path to extinction.

El diseño propuesto pretende devolver el peso social que la silla de anea tuvo antaño. La Fresca refleja el bagaje histórico de la silla de anea pero ha sido adaptada al contexto y la sociedad actual. Su forma responde a la interpretación en tres dimensiones del característico asiento de anea, que ahora se modula hasta convertirse también en respaldo y reposabrazos.
Esta silla LAFRESCA _beta, es la primera de un proyecto más complejo que revisa la clásica silla de anea, conocida popularmente como “silla andaluza” que busca integrar de nuevo este democrático asiento en los hogares actuales manteniendo su esencia material y procesos.
The design proposed pretends to give back the social meaning that this bulrush chair had back in the day. LAFRESCA reflects the historical background of this bulrush chair but has adapted to current context and society. Its shape is the 3-dimensional interpretation of the classic bulrush seat which now mutates to extend towards the back and armrest of the chair.
This LAFRESCA _beta is the first of a more complex project that reviews the classic chair made of bulrush, commonly known as “Andalusian chair” which pretends to reintegrate again this democratic seat in nowadays homes keeping its essence, materials and fabrication process.

El uso de la silla tradicional de anea se extendió durante el s. XIX por toda España. Era habitual encontrarla en casas, verla en las calles cuando la gente salía a tomar “la fresca” al anochecer en las puertas de sus casas, en cines, bares, ferias, en tablaos e incluso en iglesias. Era la silla popular por excelencia, una silla completamente social. Sin embargo, en la actualidad su uso se ha visto relegado a eventos folklóricos de carácter temporal por toda Andalucía y a algunos espacios donde aún perdura tras el paso de los años.
En el proceso de investigación sobre este arquetipo, hemos visitado a maestros artesanos por media Andalucía, que nos han mostrado los secretos del oficio, los procesos tradicionales de fabricación y sus peculiaridades.
The use of this traditional bulrush chair spread during the 19th century all over Spain. It was usually founded inside every house, at the streets when people came out to enjoy the fresh air of the sunset by the door of their houses, in cinemas, restaurants, fairs, flamenco concerts or even at the church. It was the popular chair par excellence, the social chair. However, nowadays the use of this product has been reduced to folkloric events all over Andalusia and a few places where it still remains over the years.
In the process of investigation into this archetype, we visited craftsmen of half Andalusia, who have shown us the secrets of the trade, traditional manufacturing processes and their peculiarities.
