Term 1, Process: research experiment

I was inspired to make this series of works when I was watching a short documentary about the process art movement. Specifically when they were talking about decay, and the natural process of organic matter. When I was looking through my box of materials that I keep handy, I noticed the grains and natural marks made in the drift wood. And I wanted to try exagerating those qualities in a drawn like fashion without taking away from the natural qualities of the wood itself. This way I can implement my own practice without changing the found object too much. I tried to use marks and lines that complimented the wood, to make them seem as if they were supposed to be there - without trying to use any special symbology or signs as well as enchancing the natural beauty. I think the experiment was aesthetically succesful, I think the process is visible. Using the white charcoal makes the piece kind of temporary like the charcoal can be accidently or purposefully removed. Also I think that I can experiement more with composition and layout, how they can be placed or stacked, used as 1 piece or a series.
