Germany has numerous, long-standing churches located throughout the country, one of which is the Frauenkirche, or Church of Our Lady, in Dresden. Drawing the attention of people from around the world, the church is recognized as a symbol of reconciliation after World War II and has welcomed millions of visitors over the years. Although the church’s restoration was completed in 2005, just 10 years ago, it has a history that goes back to the 18th century.

Built between 1726 and 1743 and based on the designs of George Bähr, the Frauenkirche featured a distinctive dome often referred to as a "stone bell." The structure stood for 200 years, but was destroyed by bombs during World War II. Rather than reconstructing the church immediately, Dresden left its ruins as a poignant memorial against war. In 1994, the city began rebuilding the church true to Bähr’s original designs, finally finishing the project 11 years later.
