This collaborative effort's objective was to create a typographic installation at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. As a group, we collectively came to the conclusion that, although unique and inspiring, Art Center's Hillside campus lacked an "official" entrance.
Our group ultimately chose an entrance point out of many entries that is central to the width of the entire campus—located in front of the main gallery and student gallery. This entrance is defined by multiple stairs and two landings that lead from the ground up to the doors. The group decided to create a massive and interactive typographic installation that utilizes the viewer's standing position. Relative to the stairs, they would see the orange strips placed on every step spell out A-C-C-D. As the viewer walked along the width of this entrance, one letter would visually "snap out of place" and a new letter would reveal itself by "snapping into place."
