This book is about a non-space. It's neither here, nor there, and we hardly ever see it in our everyday lives. This is a book about the space between, the passage to our destination, the connection to our goal. This is a book about the alleys of Old Pasadena.
The alleys of Old Pasadena have undergone some of the most extensive redevelopment in the country. From a time when Old Pasadena was viewed as the next "skid-row" to a time when high-end stores and restaurants packed each square-block. The alleys weren't simply painted over and the history merely forgotten. Rather, the evidence of a time not so far away remains on the walls through a painstaking preservation effort by the same group that is leading the redevelopment. Here in the these alleys, a delicate balance is being achieved between the nostalgia of the past, and the hope of the future.
