I illustrated this book cover of 'The Color Purple' by Alice Walker for Uncovered Classics: a platform promoting and celebrating female writers and illustrators. When you have read the book or seen the movie you probably noticed the amount of hope in the story, despite all the misfortune in the main character's life. This illustration represents both the excitement and hope in her life (the flowerfield) as well as her fear (the house, where all the bad things happen). She has one of the letters of her sister pressed to her chest, knowing that nobody can keep them apart. She may look a little fearful, but her strength shines through it all.
