A woman’s mind is always in deep thoughts and conflict. The world and people around her have a
certain view and expectation of her, trying to fit her into a mould. Yet her inner self has her own
passions and beliefs that drives her. Should she go with the views of others or should she believe in
herself? This is a constant struggle in her life.
This artwork is about the artist’s identity and beliefs that are in a constant struggle with the perception
of the world. This struggle is also common in many individuals. As the world moves at a faster pace
each day, there is a constant sense of competition and struggle for survival. These struggles are often
with materialistic concerns, like getting a promotion, choosing a higher-paying job over one’s passion,
profiting from friendship to sell a product, not helping a person in need because you are rushing to a
meeting, etc. Are money and power more important than our souls, that so many people have forsaken
the importance of being human? We only have one life – would we rather sell our souls to become rich,
or shall we instead keep our principles, no matter how hard it may be at times? This painting bears the
faces of people who stare out at you, hoping to get an answer to the torment in their heads, and
perhaps pointing you to the questions in life that you had previously chose to ignore.
