In the last week of February 2015. Canadian Pacific Railway, in a spat with the city of Vancouver, decided to reactivate a disused railway line in order to convince the city to purchase it at inflated costs or else face the possibility of having stock roll through residential neigborhoods on a line that goes nowhere. The company has asserted its ownership right by destroying community gardens that have sprang up along the abondoned right of way and clearing the land for future rail use. The community that has beautified the derilict industrial wasteland is in the crosshairs of the spat and will suffer the most from the corporate greed that the CPR expresses in its own professed ambition of "maximising profits for its shareholders".
Sorry weekend plans indeed.
