Bicycle theft is a problem endemic throughout the world. Be it Delft, Copenhagen, Portland or Vancouver, we all see the shells of once noble velocipede lying abandoned along sidewalks and lanes of our towns and cities. Slowly they fade, ignored and forgotten, vestiges of benvolence long forgotten.
This photo essay focuses on the abandoned bicyles we find on the streets around us, stripped of the very things that once made them powerful, for the metal of which they are made. Ravaged and chained to the very devices that made them secure.
The idea started here in Delft, South Holland. A fiets abandoned, who knows how long, beside the Neiwe Kerk. The bike itsself was in good shape...but completely unrideable.

The next four photos are of a Bicycle I found at a local college. The first shot of course I noticed nothing unusual. But a month later I took another shot. The same bike still in the same spot. A year later, it remains. Albiet with more parts missing.
