VACANT is a project that involves traditional photo manipulation. Most of the manipulations were done by hand, with only a handful that were manipulated digitally. The aim of this project was to explore the depths of photo manipulation by discovering different techniques one can do simply by hand; especially in this day and age where we are too reliant on technology to do our work.

 

Vacant: 1. Empty and, 2. Having or showing no interest.

'Flumes' was aimed to bring out the emptiness in her, through the fluidity of the ink that flows right through her. For flumes, I combined two manipulations and their concepts. From there, I discovered the creation of ink flumes - using food dye and water to create the effect as seen in the video. The video is a rough edit from my second try at the newly found manipulation.

VACANT was my final product as I liked the simplicity of it and how it can be deciphered differently by different people. I combined two manipulations, where I then redid the skeletal drawing on an A3 paper and used ink transfer as my main medium to transfer the drawing onto an A2 acrylic board. I transferred grunge-looking patterns I created on a separate A3 paper to create the grunge-messy border on the acrylic board.
