Logo Design Case Study | RoyalBreed
RoyalBreed of St. Croix: Entrepreneur, Visual Artist, sales of cultural arts & crafts and jewelry.
The Brief
The input from the client, was very simply, “People”. He said, “RoyalBreed is about People”. Now, normally I would require more than just a one word brief from a client, but I knew the client personally. In fact we’ve known each other since we were little boys. So I had a pretty good idea of what he meant when he said “People” and what message he wanted the logo to represent.
I expanded on the client’s one word brief —the logo should culturally represent, community, social living, royal people, spirited people, lively people, festive people, etc., and from a business standpoint, the logo should represent a positive customer service experience.
Concept Development
The first thing I did was set a rule. The rule was, however I was going to represent people in this logo, I was going to set the limit to three people. And how I came up with the number three? I simply said three is a crowd. At this point I started drawing a few simple sketches to get some ideas going.
I then selected two design ideas and started developing them on the computer. The first design that I worked on turned out pretty nice and clean, but the problem was, it was a typeface logo with no visual representation of people. The second design was going to be a crown. I kept working this design until I was able to fashion the top part of the crown into three people holding hands with their arms stretched above their heads, at the same time it also looks like a crown.
To finish up the design, I arched the base of the crown as well as the name, ROYALBREED to match.
