Dining and coffee table for restored mill in Hackney

The client was after a couple of 'statement pieces' to complete his recently renovated apartment in an old converted mill in Hackney, North London.

Working closely with Julie at 'Eve and Eileen' interior design, we came up with a couple of ideas for a striking dining table and coffee table.

The dining table was made from a distressed steel frame along with a single slab of English Oak measuring 120cm x 90cm. The natural edge of the Oak was retained and the top sanded to a smooth finish. Hard wax oil should keep this table looking pretty good despite the inevitable debauchery it will suffer at the hands of a batchelor!

The coffee table was made from a cross-section of a 120 year old piece of English Oak. The tree was felled in 2012 so will develop the inevitable character splits over the course of the next 15 years and it should be fully 'seasoned' around the year 2030! Rubber braked castors allow the 60 kilo mass to be moved around with ease.
