Here's a fun one. My character "Blu-E" was the subject for a 3D Artist Magazine tutorial I wrote recently using MODO 801's deformers. Issue #77 if you want the check out the rigging setup.
 
The tutorial covers many things in a simple cartoon face rigging setup that can work for stills but mostly animation. Topics covered are Lattice, Transform Effectors, parenting them into the rig, Weight Containers, use of normalizing folder, Order Of Operattions, creating custom controllers, Actors, Poses and more.
