Don't Run - Beta is a pilot production line initiated by Eugenia Morpurgo and Juan Montero. It is an experimental system focused on illustrating the possibility of a transparent, open and collaborative production line for shoe making and design.

This shift in system transfers shoe production from factory floors across the globe to self contained high street factories in towns and cities.
Rapid manufacturing machines such as laser cutters and 3D printers work in sync to create small scale on demand components. The system is developed in a way that eliminates the need for stitching or gluing during the assembly process.

In conjunction with The Ruin exhibition at the NAI - Het Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam, I developed a series of illustrations to accompany the installation of Don't Run, part of the exhibition. I tried to visualize the strength of the project, comparing the 'Don't Run Process' to the 'Generic Industrialization Process'.

To illustrate the main differences, steps and components of production and lifecycle of these two processes have been visualized with the same solid shapes and colors, even though they change dramatically in size and configuration in the two visual combinations.

In the 'Generic Industrialized Process' all the consequent production steps are scattered and dislocated throughout wholesale and shops.
In 'Don't Run Process' steps are systematic and concentrated in the same place, simplified and lighter

In Don't Run the consumer is in the center of the process.
Design and materials have a bigger role compared to the Generic Production one.
Being the process concentrated in one single place in which the product is created directly on the spot, the storage is basically non existing.
Repair is one of the backbones of the system.
