Glasswork
2011-present
I began glass fusing in January 2011 as a creative outlet. I create small plates, bowls and jewelry. My design philosophy is to make things with meaning. It merges my love of design, iconography and color. View more of my glasswork at my Etsy shop.
The Meaning Behind the Name Ka'ena Point:
The real Ka'ena Point is at the western tip of the island of Oahu. This dramatic lava shoreline is said to be the place where souls of ancient Hawaiians would jump off into the spirit world and meet the souls of their ancestors.

Today, it is a natural area reserve with an ecosystem consisting of endangered seabirds such as the Laysan Albatross, Hawaiian monk seals and native Hawaiian plants. You can still visit this remote and beautiful place by hiking a few short miles.

Growing up on Kauai, spirituality and Hawaiian mythology played a big part in my upbringing and greatly contributed to my artistic style. My Etsy shop is named for this place in honor of the Islands, my culture and heritage.

In Hawaiian, ka'ena means "the heat" and is a connection to how nature makes glass (when lightning strikes sand) and how glass fusing is done (with extreme heat).
