Brandon Medical are an award winning medical technology company with over 45 years experience in the healthcare industry. The success of the Astramax resulted in HJC leading the industrial design of the Quasar eLite surgical operating light.
HJC worked alongside Brandon Medical throughout the development of the plastic enclosure. Emphasis was placed on reducing the weight of the cumbersome head design, optimizing cleanliness and retaining the Brandon Medical design language.
The solution was to produce the top moulding using structural foam moulding process. Key advantages to this process are its inherent strength to weight ratio with part weight being reduced by up to 20% compared alternative manufacturing methods.
The structural foam also functioned as an ideal substrate to accept the antimicrobial coating which the lamp heads are treated with. ‘Virtual handles’ were designed into the form of the lamp to improve the ergonomics of the head and aid adjustability.
The eLite enclosure features the most powerful fat beam technology used in a surgical lamp to date with six individual light engines to ensure continuous illumination in the event of module failure.
Additionally the eLite featured a fully embedded HD camera into the lamp head.
