Biography
Stephen McNally is an award winning animator, filmmaker and graphic designer from Dublin, now based in London. He has worked at RTÉ, Ireland's national media broadcaster, and is now pursuing a master's at the Royal College of Art, while balancing his freelance and short film work too.

Description
Forgot is a short film about memory, emigration, longing, cocktail sausages and children’s daytime television. Forgot is a film about all the parts of life which we forget, and the parts of life which we would like to forget, but cannot.

Communication Objective
McNally experimented with animating, by trying different ways of visually expressing the very nature and sensation of forgetting. McNally explored how he could visually convey and reinforce the concept of fading and forgetting. In this story, McNally examined the form and shape of the narrative, and in particular, he explored how a fractured, disjointed and achronological set of images can create the impression of a lifetime of memories. Forgot challenges and reveals just how much the audience is able and willing to mentally rearrange and make sense of the fragmented memories.

Tools used
All of the drawn animation was created in Adobe Flash. All elements were composited, graded and effects added in Adobe After Effects. Textures and elements were created in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. The editing process was completed entirely with Adobe Premiere. The audio track-lay and early mixes were completed in Adobe Audition. Files and project structures were kept organised with Adobe Bridge.
