I Shop, You Buy: Southeast Asia
A retail experiment in trust and travel
In August 2011, I traveled to Singapore, Bangkok and Hong Kong. I wanted to let my readers experience the thrill of discovery with me so I created "I Shop, You Buy" a few days before leaving. People could subscribe to a $10 or $20 box and my challenge was to find cool objects representative of the country I was in. I publicized this on my blog and Twitter and people spread the word for me.

I had to cut off the number of subscriptions at some point because I only had one large duffel bag and it was stuffed to burst! Upon return, I sent out the packages with notes on what each item was and where it was from. Packages went as far as Malaysia. I now have a list of people who want to be included the next time I travel.
