Arkitec is based upon technical drawing plans which are used to visually communicate how something such as a building or the layout of a room is constructed, this practice is mainly used by architects and interior designers to plan out a space for construction and design. I communicated this by using the shapes within common technical drawings such as the walls for the main structural points of the typeface also circles that symbolize tables, this combined gives a complicated and technical feel to the overall typeface design. The combined shapes created a theme to run through each letterform. Another characteristic that I wanted to portray in this typeface was optical illusion, I did this by overlaying shapes in front or behind to give a pathological visual illusion effect, this effect is show clearer in ‘Arkitec Light Version’.
The name of the typeface is a simple homophone of Architect. It was also chosen mainly for the design but as well to showcase each different letterform within the typefaces ‘logo’. I am very pleased with the typefaces finishing quality, I wanted to create a visually busy font that was mechanical and gave an executive also overall formal feel.”
This project was my first unit whilst studying BA Graphic Communications at University of Creative Arts Farnham.

For the final part of this unit we had to display a 3D version of one letterform from the typeface that we have created. I decided to use the letter A as the design for the letter A gave Arkitecs characteristic being the first design that shaped the typeface.
My idea was to create a projection of the letter using a lens (optical) projector that is used to project an image or effect like oil & water on to a surface using light. The device I used is commonly used for lighting at music events such as clubs and festivals.
I would like to give credit to Jason Legge of Lucy Nation Lighting who helped me turn
the letterform into a projectable negative and the hiring of the equipment to make the
projection possibe.
