I start with some rough sketching just to explore some ideas, I normaly don't spend much time in sketching as I feel more confortable designing straight with the bezier tool. After designing every letter in Glyphs I did the bevel work in Illustrator.
After that I assembled all the letters, correcting spacing and adding some extra flavour.
As a complementary typography I used Brothers Bold by Emigre. It looked like the perfect fit for this old school tattoo parlor. It was also very cool to explore all the features of the font, as you can see.
I obviously wanted a very vintage look, not only because that was what the client was looking for but also because the parlor is inside a Portuguese Art Nouveau building. Notice all the ornaments and the gold color to create a 'glorious' look.
